Goethe Institute in Georgia
Zandukeli St.16,
0108 Tbilisi, Georgia
Speaker – Matthias Müller (Cologne)
Organizer: Sa.Ga. Publishing for Society and the Goethe-Institut Georgien
Partnership: Audio-visual Arts BA Program (GIPA)
Supporter of October 3 screening: Documentary Association Georgia (DOCA)
Since the late 1980s, Matthias Müller has made some of the most important contributions to experimental cinema in Germany. Whether in his own work or in his collaboration with artist Christoph Girardet, which has grown since 1999: At the heart of this work is an exploration of "found footage," some found by chance and some elaborately researched and collected. Its origins range from Hollywood to home movies, from stock footage agencies to private chat rooms.
In a five-day seminar and a public screening, Matthias Müller will present his artistic practice of de- and recontextualization using many film examples. It will also feature films by other artists that inspired his own work. In a concluding presentation of experimental films by students, Müller will introduce himself as a teacher who has been working as Professor of Experimental Film at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne for 21 years.
This event will be the first presentation of Matthias Müller's work in Georgia.
